In a sudden turn of events, 92 staff members at Stapleford Park Hotel in Leicestershire have been made redundant after the luxury wedding venue ceased trading on 16 October 2024. The venue, which has hosted high-profile guests including the late pop star Michael Jackson, announced an immediate halt to operations and the cancellation of all forthcoming bookings.
While Stapleford Park Limited operated the business, it did not own the Grade-I listed mansion or the surrounding 500-acre estate, casting uncertainty over the estate’s future.
The Liquidator stated, “Our priority was to ensure the most orderly wind-down of trading possible.” and collaborated with the front-of-house staff to assist approximately 50% of the guests who were still occupying the hotel at the time of closure. The liquidation team also met essential costs to limit the disruption to guests and previously scheduled bookings.
Despite concerted efforts to improve the venue’s financial performance, Stapleford Park Hotel struggled to achieve the revenue necessary to sustain operations, leading to its eventual closure. Guests who had planned to hold weddings at the venue were “flabbergasted” to learn that their bookings would no longer be honoured.
As the future of the Grade-I listed estate remains uncertain, the hotel’s management have worked to minimise the impact of the closure on both employees and affected guests.
